Periodontal diseases are infections with two components: an infectious one and an inflammatory one. They are closely linked with changes of the mouth bacterial ecosystem and are seen with different kinds of gingivitis and periodontitis.

Periodontitis affects supporting tissue and covering tissue of teeth. It is the main reason of teeth loses by adults.  

The great development of periodontal microbiology over the last years has directly come from the « bacterial specificity » concept. All the studies led with this concept showed that periodontal diseases are infectious pathologies. Each kind of periodontal pathology gets a gum microbiot whose microorganisms are very specific. This « bacterial specificity » concept has been demonstrated thanks to the evolution of molecular biology technologies. Different studies made by different research teams have defined specific bacteria partnership identified in each different kind of periodontal pathologies.

Our dedicated microbiological tests bring crucial and useful information at five different levels: they help diagnostic and prognostic, they enlighten the antibiotics use and the kind of antibiotics required, depending on the kind of bacteria strains, which allows for an efficiency control of the treatment and the maintenance while reducing the relapse risk and the peri-implantitis risk.

In the field of carious disease, most commonly called « dental caries », the microbiological risk has clearly been identified as well.

Our molecular biology technologies can identify and quantify the pathogenic bacteria strains that are implied in this pathology. This information gives the opportunity to schedule a customized prevention program with appropriate intervals.
